Many people have now taken the opportunity to spend a day with Elizabeth and her family. You can’t get much closer than a full day up in the cab with Vern, helping to make it all happen. Young, old, male or female, not one single person has gone away any less than thrilled. Quite a number go on to book more days and the current record is a chap about to book his fourth!

The only limits are the lower age, generally 14, although younger mature children can be considered. There is no upper limit, but please bear in mind it is a climb into the cab and you will be shovelling coal!

Your day begins at Elizabeth’s shed, where Viv and Vern will greet you. The honour of preparing and lighting the fire goes to you, along with some wonderful photographic opportunities! We then take a two minute walk next door to the finest restaurant in the area and take our seats for a hearty breakfast. All tastes are catered for, so no worries there.

Now that you are fuelled up, it’s time to give Elizabeth hers. Several bags of steam coal to load into the bunker. After a few more jobs, we come to the best bit. The thrill of Elizabeth rolling out of her shed is a feeling lots of people comment on, but that is only the start.

As we set off for Town, you will quickly become aware of people waving to you and pointing cameras, in fact sometimes there are so many, you wonder what they are waiting for- it’s Elizabeth!
Make sure you ask Vern as many questions as you want through the day as he’s no stranger to giving the answers. Anything from what it was like to work on the Harry Potter film set, to driving the trains on Heartbeat and the Royal.

What about the honour of being a regular Driver of Sir Nigel Gresley, Blue Peter or many other rail steam giants. You might want to know all the ‘how it works’ and Vern will happily tell you in his own relaxed style, or you might just want to drink in the intoxicating atmosphere of the phenomenon that is Elizabeth.

You can book by clicking the contact us page. Vouchers can be supplied if the day is to be a gift. They have no time limit, but are subject to availability.

We ask that you provide your own safety footwear and cotton based overalls. Nylon is not suitable as it will melt if in contact with heat.
